A total of 1,728 families from various barangays in Batangas City, Lian, Nasugbu, and Talisay in Batangas received relief goods through the Foundation’s HOPE Caravan, with the help of its generous partners and benefactors, following the Taal Volcano’s unexpected eruption on January 12, 2020

Volunteers from sister companies under the Group and other institutions went to various evacuation centers to bring relief from January 16 to February 27, 2020.

Five barangays in Lian, Batangas with total of 268 families were reached by the TYKFI project team with volunteer-employees from Absolut Distillers, Inc. (ADI), Eton Properties Phils. Inc. (EPPI), Philippine Airlines (PAL), and Philippine National Bank (PNB). The evacuees stayed in public schools across the Municipality.
In Nasugbu, 296 families were grateful that the mission had gotten to their areas.  They received bags of relief goods, which also included bed mats.
On January 29, 2020, members of Batangas City Tanduay Athletics, representatives from ADI and Tan Yan Kee Foundation, Inc. visited Batangas City Evacuation Center in Barangay Bolbok and distributed bags of relief goods to 138 families from various barangays across Batangas City. Each family was staying in evacuation tents provided by the local government during natural disasters.  Meanwhile, 69 families who have been staying in the Barangay hall and its function room of Brgy. Pinamucan Proper and in local public schools were grateful that they were reached by the HOPE Caravan despite being one of the farthest barangays to reach in the city. In coordination with Tanduay Distillers, Inc., Himmel Industries, Inc., and LGU headed by Brgy. Chairman Wilfredo Ilagan, they received bags of relief goods and sleeping mats which they said would help sustain their weeks while staying in evacuation and even after they go back to their homes.
In the aftermath of the recent calamity, Tanduay Distillers, Inc. (TDI), Philippine Airlines, and members of the Philippine Airforce joined TYKFI in the clearing operations of ash-covered roads in Talisay, Batangas on January 30, 2020.
TYKFI together with partner TDI continued to bring relief to victims of the Taal volcano unrest. On February 4, 2020, present to help the Foundation in distributing the relief goods at San Agustin Chapel were Brgy. Leynes Captain Bailon D. Caringal and members of the local barangay unit to 356 affected families and residents.
Even after a month since the Taal volcano’s destructive eruption, TYKFI together with Philippine National Bank (PNB) and its over 40 Branch Managers and Area Heads from the South Luzon Area, headed to Talisay, Batangas to assemble and distribute “Home Starter Kits” to 897 families from Sitio Tabla and San Isidro from Barangay Poblacion who were staying in the evacuation center in Barangay Tumaway, Talisay, Batangas.
Each start-up set contained a cooking pot, ladle, three pieces plates, three pairs of spoon and fork, water pail, dipper, and petroleum jelly.  Moreover, Allianz PNB Life Insurance, Inc. donated toothbrushes and ecobags, while Tanduay Distillers, Inc donated cleaning tools.
Joanne Malapitan, a beneficiary, expressed her thankfulness for the help given to her and her 80-year-old parents and two elementary age children living in the evacuation center.  Alcadia Dinglasan was also very thankful that TYKFI came to their aid despite the distance as she used to be a horse guide but has since been displaced from work. It is the hope of the Foundation that these families will be able to pick up and have some normalcy and start rebuilding their lives once again.
