Dr. Lucio C. Tan recently graced the inauguration and opening of The Mind Museum under the wing of the Bonifacio Art Foundation, Inc. The Tan Yan Kee Foundation, Inc., Chaired by Dr. Tan, sponsored the construction of the Mind Museum Theatre.
The Museum showcases a visual feast of science and the arts turned to layman-friendly displays by Filipino scientists, artists, and engineers. Visitors are treated to a “learning travel” with each stop providing information and realistic exhibit. Among these features are the Life Gallery, showing all forms of earth’s life; the Universe Gallery, which showcases the beginning and majestic realm of the universe; the Technology Gallery, which features not just gadgets and advancement but their uses as a means to flesh out human values and help people become better individuals; the Atom Gallery, which presents the quantum world and everyday gravity and electromagnetism often taken for granted because they are everyday facts of life; and the Earth Gallery, which shows 4.6 billion years of natural history.
At its conceptual stage, during the signing of the Memorandum of Agreement between Dr. Tan and the Bonifacio Art Foundation, he likened the Mind Museum to a door that opens knowledge and appreciation in young minds. He added, “we need science for progress. We need art for the human spirit. But first, we need to provide a door for people to begin learning and loving art and science.”
