Project Asthma on Wheels, TYKFI’s project distributing much-needed nebulizers, recently covered the 2nd and 3rd districts of Cebu.  

Partnering with Regional Health Units of the Cebu Government and private and government hospitals, TYKFI distributed to four hospitals and ten RHUs 16 nebulizer units and 160 consumable kits.  

The project has been providing nebulizers and kits for years now in order to help alleviate the suffering of a large number of patients with upper respiratory tract infection, asthma, bronchitis, and other related ailments. 

The Tan Yan Kee Foundation, Inc. (TYKFI) distributed in September, 15 Nebulizer Units and 150 Nebulizer Kits to different rural health units and hospitals in the Province of Cebu. Project Asthma: Nebulizer Distribution Program is an ongoing advocacy of TYKFI to help alleviate pulmonary-related disease sufferers in various parts of the country.

Buguias is a 3rd class municipality in the province of Benguet, Philippines. The latest census puts the  population at 34,507  in 6,312 households.

The name of the municipality came from the word “Bogey-yas”, a popular Igorot settlement during the pre-Spanish time. The spelling was modernized and spelled as “Buguias” by Spanish authorities. Just like Bogey-yas, other names such as Loo, Tucucan, Tinoc, Buguias, Abatan, Ambuse (now Kabayan), Lutab, Karao, Bokkod, Acupan, Kafagway (now Baguio City), Benget (now La Trinidad), Mankayan, and Lepanto were popular Igorot settlements during the Spanish time.

Buguias’s  Rural Health Unit is a past TYKF recipient under Project Asthma. Because it is located along the border of Mountain Province and Ifugao, patient number is quite considerable. Dr. Hilda Kimakim, Municipal Health Officer, received two additional nebulizers to cope with the demand.

November of 2010, Tan Yan Kee Foundations Nebulizer on Wheels rolled out in the Province of Antique.  Receiving one nebulizer unit and 10 consumable kits each where the Angel Salazar Memorial General Hospital, Belison Rural Health Unit, Ramon Mara, Sr. Memorial District Hospital, Hamtic Rural Health Unit, Tobias Fornier Rural Health Unit, and Pres. Diosdado Macapagal Memorial District Hospital.

The Simon of Cyrene Village for the disabled, located in Daraga, Albay, is a community and development center in one. Here, persons with disabilities are rehabilitated and trained to become productive members of society. The disabled are empowered through education, skills training, and livelihood programs.

The Tan Yan Kee Foundation’s Nebulizer Distribution Program, better known as Project Asthma, continues to reach out to people in need of relief from various respiratory ailments.  During the second semester of 2008 TYKF covered La Union and Benguet in the North, and Camiguin and Victorias City, Negros Occidental in the South.
