For school year 2019-2020, TYKFI continued to extend support for education through its involvement in the annual Brigada Eskwela for one of its adopted schools in Sta. Cruz, Ilocos Sur. The Foundation provided Nagtenga Elementary School with materials to help remodel three old Marcos-type classrooms for kindergarten and grades 2 and 3 students
This past May, the Foundation took part in yet another Brigada Eswela activity through two adopted schools in Ilocos Sur, namely Nagtenga Elementary School and Sidaoen Elementary School, both in the district of Sta. Cruz.
As school children all over the country prepared themselves for the opening of classes last June, the Department of Education (DepEd) and its private partners, including the Tan Yan Kee Foundation Inc., also worked double time on Brigada Eskwela, the department’s annual school maintenance project.

The Tan Yan Kee Foundation, Inc. drove the Brigada Eskwela or the Annual School Maintenance program by the Department of Education (DepEd) in four schools, namely: Tan Yan Kee Elementary School (TYKES), Buyasyas Elementary School, Macdu Elementary School, and Sidaoen Elementary School. The schools were given cement, paint, painting tools, glass for windows and roofing materials to restore their facilities last May 18 to 21, 2014.
The Tan Yan Kee Foundation participated actively in the Department of Education’s Brigada Eskwela that welcomes each schoolyear opening. The activity, held during the National school Maintenance Week enjoins various stakeholders in the community to help in preparing schools for the opening of classes in June. The efforts may be in the form of school clean up, minor repair of classrooms and facilities, and the like. |
