Dr. Lucio C. Tan, head of the conglomerate Lucio Tan Group of Companies, recently received the first Golden Bell Award from the Cabuyao City government for helping the city hasten its economic development and protect the environment.
The noted philanthropist has donated a piece of land to the City Government of Cabuyao for the construction of a road that will alleviate traffic congestion in the city. As Cabuyao City Mayor Dennis Hain said, “The construction of this access road will play a vital role in easing traffic congestion that has been a growing concern in Cabuyao.”
Most importantly, Mayor Hain said that the decongestion of motor traffic will help reduce gas emissions caused by the build up of vehicles on local roads leading to the old National Highway. Thus, the LTGC donation will pave the way for a modern infrastructure that will help reduce pollution which in turn will protect the environment and the residents of the community.
The improvement of traffic flow will also have a ripple effect on various aspects of life in Cabuyao. For instance, the daily struggles of commuting will be reduced, ensuring smoother journeys for workers and students alike. In addition, the ease of transportation will facilitate the growth of businesses, which in turn will positively impact the local economy and commerce in the city.
Dr. Tan also chairs and presides over the Tan Yan Kee Foundation, Inc., a 37-year old non-government organization (NGO) with an environmental program that is mainly involved in the protection of forests, wildlife, mangroves and water resources and a food security program that promotes the production of farm fresh vegetables and fruits.
