Tan Yan Kee Foundation, Inc., one of the country’s leading non-government organizations, has won the prestigious Asian Sustainability Leadership Award for Excellence in Social Sustainability and Community Development.
Dr. Lucio C. Tan, the Foundation chairman and president, is happy to disclose that the Asian Leadership Awards 2021 awarded the Foundation for its commitment in adopting a wholistic approach in implementing its programs and projects in environmental protection, education, health care and social welfare. In its 19th Year, the Asian Leadership Awards (ALA) has named remarkable business leaders and organizations in Asia for their continuing commitment to excellence, developing best practices and innovative strategies.
Mr. Philip Sing, TYKFI’s General Manager and Treasurer, received the award on behalf of Dr. Tan during the virtual awarding ceremonies on July 15, 2021.
For 35 years, the Foundation has focused on sustainable projects in mainly agricultural and marginalized communities and has successfully integrated them to benefit and improve the quality of life of thousands of families. Today, the Foundation has seen the fruits of this integrated program with many beneficiaries enjoying a safer environment, food security and economic opportunities, especially during the pandemic.
Among the notable projects that have met these goals and reached sustainable status is the Dr. Lucio C. Tan Legacy Forest Project started by Dr Tan in 2014 in Nueva Ecija, Laguna and Quezon. Today, environmental experts say biodiversity improved tremendously in these reforested areas with reinvigorated flora and fauna, clean watershed and protected wildlife.
