The Simon of Cyrene Village for the disabled, located in Daraga, Albay, is a community and development center in one. Here, persons with disabilities are rehabilitated and trained to become productive members of society. The disabled are empowered through education, skills training, and livelihood programs.
Healthcare is one of the major challenges in running the center. Although there are medical personnel who visit the village occasionally, they are still in want of basic medical equipments. Respiratory ailments being one of the more frequent complaints of residents, they decided to send a letter-request to the Tan Yan Kee Foundation to for a nebulizer.
On July 20, 2009 after implementation of one of the Foundation’s projects in a nearby municipality, representatives of Tan Yan Kee, headed by officer Santos Tan, dropped by the village and turned over a nebulizer, complete with disposable kits to the Cherrie Oringo, Executive Director of Simon of Cyrene Children’s Rehabilitation and Development Foundation. Also present was the doctor-in-charge of the community, Dr. Aster Reganit. Dr. Reganit is directly responsible for the use of the nebulizer.
