The Tan Yan Kee Foundation in partnership with Globe Telecom and Singtel recently donated some one thousand colorful and attractive storybooks to the Tan Yan Kee Elementary School, formerly known as Balete Primary School located in Brgy. Balete, Santa Fe, Nueva Vizcaya. All 51 pupils of the school were on hand for the turnover ceremony witnessed by members of the community, school officials, barangay council, the local government, and other stakeholders of the school.
The book donation was intended to augment the learning materials of the school, in support of the Department of Education’s ECARP or Every Child a Reader Program; as it has been proven time and again that the habit of reading is one good way to improve a child’s intellectual capacity.
The event was highlighted by a storytelling cum puppet show conducted by University of the East - College of Education’s Cynthia Diaz and UE alumna and recent board topnotcher Rachel Declaro. The school children were more than eager to meet puppet “Kakay Kalaykay”, garbed in farmer’s work clothes, a familiar sight to them. It was not a surprise that the kids were all ears to the story and very much participative in the activity held later.
Also on hand during the occasion were Monaliza Cabato, DepEd District Supervisor, Yolly Crisanto, Globe Telecom’s Head of Corporate Communications, and Program Manager Pia Bernal.
