    ENGLISH TEXTBOOKS FOR TYKES

    Opening its second year of operations in June 2012, the Tan Yan Kee Elementary School (TYKES) has an additional 300 copies of DepEd’s Nueva Vizcaya Division localized English textbooks.  These were donated by TYKFI to serve pupils from Grades one to six. 

    STORYBOOKS FOR BALETE SCHOOL

    Storytellers cum puppeteers from the University of the East, Rachel Declaro and Cynthia Diaz (partly hidden), engaged the pupils in a different form of storytelling session - making use of a puppet named “Kakay Kalaykay”.

    The Tan Yan Kee Foundation in partnership with Globe Telecom and Singtel recently donated some one thousand colorful and attractive storybooks to the Tan Yan Kee Elementary School, formerly known as Balete Primary School located in Brgy. Balete, Santa Fe, Nueva Vizcaya. All 51 pupils of the school were on hand for the turnover ceremony witnessed by members of the community, school officials, barangay council, the local government, and other stakeholders of the school.

    Storybooks for Patag Elementary School

    November 12, 2010 was a red-letter day for the Patag Elementary School in Barotac Nuevo, Iloilo.  

    Catering to 265 pupils from Grades one to six, 40 Kindergartners, five day care pupils with 11 teachers, the school has only ten classrooms and one room for agriculture class/shop. These classrooms were constructed in the 1960’s and are only renovated if funds are available. No new classrooms have been constructed. The school caters to pupils from barangays Barotac Nuevo and Bagombong and is rated top 10 within the district out of 23 schools in NAT scoring.

    Bmr training conducted in Batangas

    The Department of Education recently conducted training on the use of the Bright Minds Read Beginning Reading Kit for 15 public elementary schools in Lian, Batangas. Tan Yan Kee Foundation sponsored four of these schools which are all located in the vicinity of Absolut Chemicals, Inc., an alcohol plant and sister company in the Lucio Tan Group. These four schools are: Malaruhatan Elementary School, Bagong Pook ES, Bungahan ES, and the San Diego ES.

    Successful Completion of TYK-PNB Storybook Drive

    WRAPPING up the Tan Yan Kee Foundation’s Sa Pagbasa, May Pag-asa Storybook Drive in cooperation with the Philippine National Bank, 2,500 books were turned over to the last fi ve remaining recipient schools in Luzon.

    The schools, located in Cavite, Batangas, Lipa, San Pablo and Lucena, complete the roster of 72 public elementary schools pre-selected by PNB to be benefi ciaries under the said project. Each institution gets 500 storybooks which are meant to augment the schools’ existing reading materials.
