Children ages 13 to 16 and six to 12 had a most fruitful summer as they joined the yearly Tan Yan Kee Library activities. The former group was in History class and the latter in Fables Class.
Combining learning with creative interventions, the children were in activities that included: learning, reading, storytelling, and understanding Chinese History and fables; understanding Chinese numerical idioms; singing inspirational and mother’s day songs; art activities (drawing, coloring, origami, mother’s day greeting card-making); story writing; acting in short plays and song interpretation; narration; learning and improving Manadarin and Fookien. Summer culminated with the 2012 Summer Class Graduation rites on June 3, featuring short plays, narration, singing, song interpretation with some presentations rendered in both Mandarin and Fookien. Prior to the culminating activity, The Mother’s Day celebration was held, with the children presenting a tribute to mothers utilizing their summer learnings. The TYK Library personnel are Florentina Go, Ellamae Valenzuela, and Leslie Anne Cham. Guest music teacher is Antonio Tiu, who was also joined by guest teachers Aniceto Cham, Monea Yeung, and Vivi Zhong. |
